Keep Our Children Safe Petition

Tell our legislators: Schools our students deserve KEEP OUR CHILDREN SAFE!

Regardless of one’s political views from the seismic national election in November 2016, one thing has become clear: we must KEEP OUR CHILDREN SAFE! We all agree that our students deserve schools that are safe for learning and growing. Now, too many children and families are afraid, and our teachers alone cannot protect them. Our communities have to speak up loudly for our children!

Call on our legislators to KEEP OUR CHILDREN SAFE!

Ask our legislators to publicly endorse policies against bullying and to implement stronger programs to keep school grounds as safe havens. They must:

  1. END bullying and all forms of hate in our public schools! Now is the time to condemn racist, misogynistic, sexist, and threatening bullying.  Make it clear on January 11, 2017, day one of the new legislative session, that part of democracy is tolerance and respect for one another.

  2. END deportation raids on our school grounds. Schools must be safe havens for all students, including those who have no control over their immigration status.

  3. END automatically charging 16- and 17-year-old children as adults. Raise the age and expand ways to keep children in school, such as restorative justice programs.

  4. END the shortage of appropriate support personnel in our schools! Never have we needed our psychologists, social workers, counselors and other support staff more, but too many schools are without them.
