Former State Superintendent Bob Etheridge and Others ‘Sound the Alarm’ For Strong Public Schools in NC

June 19, 2013 Written by admin

June 19, 2013. Parents, educators and members of the Boone Town Council joined former congressman and N.C. Superintendent of Public Instruction Bob Etheridge and Public Schools First NC for a press conference at Jaycee Park in Boone in support of strong public schools.

So far, yesterday’s stop at Jaycee Park near Horn in the West is the 13th stop among a statewide tour.

In a press release, Public Schools First NC stated:

“Strong public schools have been a key part of creating the modern North Carolina—a wonderful place to do business and raise a family. Unfortunately, after years of budget cuts and other right-wing policy changes North Carolina’s public schools are in danger.

For example, state lawmakers are putting the squeeze on elementary schools. They want to jam 30 or more students into a classroom. They want fewer teacher assistants. And they want voucher money drained from public schools. Students will have less one-on-one time with their teacher. And teachers will have fewer resources like technology and text books to make up for it.”

The Judicial Standards Commission, which handles disciplinary actions against judges will have more members appointed by the legislature. Plenty of court cases affect education! #nced
