Prince George’s County: No Democracy for Us

July 22, 2013 Written by admin

Diane Ravitch’s post: “Prince George’s County, Maryland, will become the first county in the nation where the county executive controls the schools.  The executive will appoint the schools’ superintendent and several board members.”

This is just the tip of the iceberg…HB 726 will be voted on this week. Initially, it impacts only Wake County, taking school construction authority away from the school district and giving it to the Board of Commissioners. What’s taking place is the start of an effort to disembody democratically elected school boards. No, this isn’t Chicken Little speaking. See what’s happening in Maryland…http://dianeravitch.net/2013/07/19/prince-georges-county-no-democracy-for-us/

The Judicial Standards Commission, which handles disciplinary actions against judges will have more members appointed by the legislature. Plenty of court cases affect education! #nced
