Uphold Veto of HB219 “Charter School Omnibus”
Uphold Veto of HB219 “Charter School Omnibus”

Please focus on improving public schools for ALL students and vote to uphold the VETO! HB219 is allowing charter schools to grow in the wrong way! Charter schools that are not giving our children the education they deserve should not be allowed to grow with NO regard for a student’s academic success. It is not fair to taxpayers to keep diverting our public education tax dollars to unaccountable and unsuccessful charter schools - schools that can come and go without regard for the impact on our children or our community. Please do not allow charter schools to use much needed capital tax dollars for charter schools that do not even belong to the taxpayers but to the charter school owners! Raising taxes at the local level should be reserved for our traditional public schools which cannot relocate or shut down when their profit margin is lower than what the charter school owner wants. Public buildings paid for by taxpayers should be controlled by and owned by residents of the county. If a charter school building is not maintained, who pays? If a charter school is sold (not dissolved), who gets the money? Too many questions are left unanswered.
