Following approval of their January minutes, Board members will recognize Career and Technical Education Teacher (Mazie Quick) and Administrator (Shirley Bynum) of the Year then hear a special report from Edgecombe County on Global Education. State Superintendent June Atkinson will follow with her report to the Board, which includes an update from NCDPI Data, Research and Federal Policy Director Lou Fabrizio on the Every Student Succeeds Act.

Under the Board’s Consent Agenda, members will approve the Joint Legislative Education Oversight Committee report on Educator Preparation Report Cards, Advisory Council Membership for Governor Morehead School for the Blind, Council on Educational Services for Exceptional Children membership, Technical Corrections to Basic Education Plan Key Terms, New Advisory Board members for the NC Virtual Public School Council, and charter amendments for Kestrel Heights Charter School and Metrolina Regional Scholars Academy.

Committee chairs will then report out and members will take action on regular agenda items as appropriate. Chairman Bill Cobey will conclude the meeting with his comments followed by a discussion of any old and new business.

Sen. Phil Berger said the budget will “put student outcomes and parental choice ahead of bureaucracy.” But it DOESN'T. No meaningful student outcome checks exist, & private schools accept who they want. It is a disaster. #nced
