Malala’s U.N. Speech is Just the Beginning

July 15, 2013 Written by admin

As the saying goes, “out of the mouths of babes.”  You may remember sixteen-year old Pakistani Malala Yousafzai–shot by the Taliban for advocating that all girls in her country receive a free education.  Healing from her wounds, Malala spent her 16th birthday at the United Nations, calling for “free, compulsory education” for every child around the world.

At the United Nations Youth Assembly, she urged: “Let us pick up our books and our pens. They are our most powerful weapons. One child, one teacher, one book, and one pen can change the world. Education is the only solution.”

Let this inspire our efforts to ensure a high quality, well-funded public education for all North Carolinians!

Watch the video of Malala’s speech before the United Nations.

Years of skimpy funding by the state and local leaders led to a greater crisis in ABSS when they had to face costs of nearly $26 million in mold remediation at schools in September. #nced #ncpublicschools #ncpol
