New Hampshire Court Strikes Down Tax-Credit Aid to Religious Schools

July 12, 2013 Written by admin

New Hampshire believes in the separation of church and state.  And on June 17th, the court found that their tax-credit program violated the NH Constitution.

“A New Hampshire state court ruled today that a tuition tax-credit program violates the state constitution. The program was challenged by Americans United for Separation of Church and State, the New Hampshire Civil Liberties Union and the American Civil Liberties Union. The Strafford County Superior Court held that the state’s Education Tax Credit Program is unconstitutional because it diverts tax payments to religious schools.

The challenge was brought on behalf of nine plaintiffs, including clergy, public education advocates, and parents of public school children. They asserted that the tax-credit program would primarily benefit private religious schools, which are free to use the tax funds for religious instruction and discrimination.”

Sen. Phil Berger said the budget will “put student outcomes and parental choice ahead of bureaucracy.” But it DOESN'T. No meaningful student outcome checks exist, & private schools accept who they want. It is a disaster. #nced
