State Board of Education Approves School for Transfer into ISD

The State Board of Education voted to transfer Carver Heights Elementary into the Innovative School District beginning in 2019-2020. Carver Heights Elementary is located in Goldsboro, NC. See the press release here.

The board approved the school’s transfer to the ISD despite school leaders concerns about the ISD’s unproven record of turning around schools, which they expressed in a letter to North Carolina officials.

“The ISD is without a proven school turnaround record, without a strategic plan to assist our children, and without any accountability to the taxpayers, parents, or children of Wayne County,” wrote Superintendent Michael Dunsmore and Board of Education Chair Patricia Burden.

Carver Heights Elementary is the second school to join the ISD.
