#ClassSizeChaos Tweet Storm A-Comin

September 28, 2017 Written by Elizabeth

SAVE THE DATE
to help us welcome NCGA members with what’s on all of our minds when they return in January 2018! Join us Tuesday, January 9th from 4:00-6:00 PM for an old fashioned Twitter storm. Our elected representatives need to know how seriously we take the impending fiasco caused by unfunded K-3 class size restrictions.

Our downloadable spreadsheet has all the information you’ll need to reach House and Senate members, so look up your delegation in advance. Be ready to join us and our partners at NCAE and the NC Justice Center as we rain tweets on our reps! As the NC School Boards Association writes here, the NCGA must fix the slow-moving disaster that threatens to engulf districts, enhancement teachers, schools, and families.

We’ll be using the #ClassSizeChaos hashtag so they won’t have any question about what we’re tweeting about.

School districts want the NCGA to restore the original HB13 that allows more local flexibility in K-3 class sizes.  Further, our school districts deserve to have the enhancement teachers (“specials”) FULLY funded in January to allow time for budgeting.  Lastly, many school districts need a waiver to give them more time to find qualified teachers and classroom space.

Remember to @ your members and legislative leaders, and consider using the following tweets, or your own variations, with the proper handles in place. (Take care not to draft tweets longer than 130 characters so that you’ll have room for handles.)

Sen. Phil Berger said the budget will “put student outcomes and parental choice ahead of bureaucracy.” But it DOESN'T. No meaningful student outcome checks exist, & private schools accept who they want. It is a disaster. #nced
